Rainforest Biosphere

Rainforest Biosphere

DuneCraft has a wide variety of plant-based products.  Some of my favorites are the “dome garden kits.”  There are several we think look especially interesting, like the Carnivorous Creations (carnivorous plants) and Biblical Garden (plants referenced in the Bible or named for Biblical characters).  The Tea House would make a fun and unique addition to a gift of a tea set or pretty teacup.  The one we’re trying out is the Rainforest Biosphere shown at left.

The Rainforest Biosphere kit includes the planter with greenhouse-type dome, planting mixture, seeds, stickers to decorate the planter, and even a little plastic frog to “inhabit” our rain forest.  The instructions were simple enough that my nine-year-old daughter went off and followed them all by herself.

The seeds are guaranteed to sprout (a really good thing when children are doing the planting!).  My daughter is really excited about the growth process.  After just a couple of days, her plants are already starting to sprout.  I am excited that she is spending time on something constructive and educational – learning about how things grow.  And it’s healthy, to boot.  (Live plants are good for us; they help clean our air!)

These dome garden kits would make fantastic gifts for children, who will enjoy them and not even know they’re “learning something.”

Hi there…I’m a science teacher interested in using these in my classroom, but can’t find any info on the time it takes for them to sprout, grow fairly mature, and die. Can you remember about how long this project lasted? We do a rainforest museum and it would be great if these were in full show on that day, so I don’t want to plant too early or late. Thanks for any timeline details you can provide! Cheers,
