Tiecoon

Tiecoon

I have discovered some wonderful sites in the process of compiling my holiday gift guide this year, and Tiecoon is one of them.  They have a huge selection of neckties, and almost all of them are $5 each.

You can browse their site by color (which makes sense, as most of us have a particular color or colors in mind when we’re looking), which is how I found this beautiful purple-and-black tie.  (Michael hasn’t had an opportunity to wear it yet, so I don’t have a picture of it on.)  It took  me less than five minutes to locate and choose this one on the site.

The quality is just what you’d expect/hope for.

Tiecoon can even make custom neckties!  (There is a minimum order of 15 for these and, of course, they cost more than the in-stock ties.)  The site also includes tie-related information, such as “how to tie a necktie.”

At this price and with this selection, Tiecoon is a wonderful source for your regular clothing-shopping needs, for holiday event apparel, and for stocking stuffers or other gifts.

Find Tiecoon on Facebook and Twitter.

I Like Book for Couples

I Like Book, Couples Version

Like the I Like Book for children, the I Like Book for Couples is a tool to help you build up another person by telling him what you like about him.  In this instance, it’s intended to be shared with your significant other.

The bulk of the book is comprised of daily spaces for each of you to write what you like about the other.  These are gathered into monthly “chapters.”  Between the chapters are miscellaneous additions, such as quotes, games to play, and a list of great date ideas.  There are several note pages at the end, as well.

If your relationship is good, you surely know that good relationships take work – and part of that work is uplifting words!  This is a great tool for keeping those uplifting words going as a routine part of your life.

If your relationship is struggling, chances are you’ve forgotten what you liked about your partner in the beginning.  In this case, the I Like Book for Couples could be just the catalyst you need to get those encouraging words back into your daily speech.  Having to stop and think in an attempt to come up with one thing each day can change your focus from all of the petty irritations to the important little likes.

Although this would, of course, make a great gift for your spouse at any time, consider giving it to another couple as an engagement, wedding, or anniversary gift.  (It would make an especially great first anniversary gift!  The first anniversary is traditionally the “paper” anniversary, and as they’re coming out of the “honeymoon” phase, their relationship can probably really benefit from the positive focus of this book.)

$19.95 (Also see the I Like Book.)

Bamboo Towels (Pure Fiber)

Pure Fiber produces linens made with viscose from bamboo.  I got to try their three-piece towel set and, let me tell you, these are by far the softest towels I have ever used.  (Now I really want a bathrobe!)  But it’s not that the-water-doesn’t-absorb-and-you-just-stay-wet kind of softness.  This is like what you imagine baby towels should feel like.  (And they do have baby towels available.)

The regular, solid-colored bamboo bath towels come in sixteen different colors.  (There are other options, like embroidered ones.  And kitchen towels.)

Pure Fiber also has bed sheets, blankets, kitchen towels, bath rugs, and bathrobes in their collection.

If you want to feel like you’re at the spa, splurge on a set of these towels!

$51 (per bath set)

Great Laptop Bag (review)

When I replaced my laptop at the end of last year, I upgraded the size a bit.  Since my laptop is a “desktop replacement,” I like having a larger screen.  This sized my laptop right out of my laptop bag, though!

Finding a new one has been a little tricky because the new computer has an oversized battery than keeps it from fitting in a lot of laptop bags.  But then I found CoolComputerBags.com. [Read more...]

Scrabble Turbo Slam (and giveaway)

Congratulations to giveaway winner Sunkist Thomas!

(Much of) our family likes to play Fantasy Football every year.  There’s no money in it or anything, for us; it’s just for fun.  And it gives some of the extended family a way to “connect” throughout much of the year.

This past weekend was our draft.  It went much faster than last year (our first time drafting live, offline).  As in, it took about three hours less than last year!  This left us plenty of time to hang out and enjoy each other, doing things like trying out the new Scrabble Turbo Slam.

This contains a deck of letter cards, a smaller deck of game-changing cards, and the Slam Button with sound effects.  After someone forms a four-letter word (no, not that kind of four-letter word!) with the letter cards, you deal the remaining ones.  Then the game begins.  You race against each other to get rid of your cards by playing one card at a time on top of the existing word to change the word.  GAME might become GATE, for instance.  When the Slam Button plays its special turbo sound, each player tries to be first to slam the button, because the first one to slam the button draws one of the other cards.  These tell him to either accumulate or eliminate extra cards by either taking from or giving to other players, or discarding.

After spending about half an hour trying to figure out which sound effects were which, and muddling the game, we finally got it (mostly) figured out.  Most of us decided that we’d rather play with just the cards and not the buzzer (which is, essentially, Scrabble Slam – a card game already available).  Susan did enjoy it with the buzzer.  (We all agree, though, that the game would have been far less frustrating and far more enjoyable if they had described the sounds more clearly in the instructions.)  The game requires 3 AAA batteries (not included).

Enter to win this game, either for yourself, or as a gift.  (Way to get ready for Christmas!)   If you had this game, who would you play it with?  Leave a comment answering this question before midnight (EDT) on September 9th to be entered.  For additional, optional entries:

Then leave a separate comment for each entry, so I can count them!   The winner will be randomly selected from among all qualifying entries, and will have 48 hours to respond with contact information.  US only, please.
