Please be aware that, by listing a book on this page, I am not necessarily claiming to agree with every comment in it. The books on this page are books that I have personally read (or, in the case of the men's books, which my husband has read) and which I believe are packed with very valuable information. (The health/nutrtion books, for example, usually contain a reference or two to evolution.) Where there is an issue I found to be significant throughout the text, I have made of this. I urge you to read everything with discretion, weighing it against the truth found in Scripture.
Also note that omission from this list (even of books on my Bookshelf) does not mean that I would not recommend a particular book. I have tried to limit this list to those books I found most outstanding, both for simplicity's sake, and to keep this page from being a mile long!

Homemaking - Kitchen

-The Busy Woman's Guide to Healthy Eating (was The 15 Minute Meal Planner), by Emilie Barnes and Sue Gregg
-Cook it Right!, by Barbara Nowak
This is an "encyclopedia" of substitutions, and comes in VERY handy!

Homemaking - Other

-Speed Cleaning, by Jeff Campbell
-Organizing from the Inside Out, by Julie Morgenstern
-ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life, by Judith Kolberg and Kathleen Nadeau
Even if you don't think you have ADD, if organization is a struggle for you, you may find this book a blessing.
-Use What You Have Decorating, by Lauri Ward

For Women

-The Way Home, by Mary Pride
-Created to be His Help Meet, by Debi Pearl
Please note that there are some explicit descriptions in this book which may not be appropriate for young, unmarried women.
-Me? Obey Him?, by Elizabeth Rice Handford

For Men

-Family Man, Family Leader, by Phillip Lancaster
-Federal Husband, by Douglas Wilson

Babies

-A Full Quiver, by Rick and Jan Hess
-Be Fruitful and Multiply, by Nancy Campbell

Discipline/Child Training

-Creative Family Times, by Allen & Connie Hadidian and Will & Lindy Wilson
-The Pursuit of Godly Seed, by Denny Kenaston
-Standing on the Promises, by Douglas Wilson
-To Train Up a Child, by Michael and Debi Pearl
Note: You must realize, with both this book and the one below, that the purpose of the book is to address discipline/training and, as such, it may appear unbalanced. Recognize that these two books are not intended to paint the full picture of parenting, and they MUST be used alongside encouraging, bonding activities, not in an unloving vacuum.
-Spanking: A Loving Discipline, by Roy Lessin
-The Parenting of Champions, by J.R. Lucas
-Parenting with Love and Logic, by Foster Cline and Jim Fay
Please note that there are two different versions of the older edition, both published under the same ISBN. The chapters on spanking differ radically between the two versions and I cannot recommend the version which contradicts the Bible's instructions to use the rod. I suspect that I could not recommend the new edition, either, although I have not had occasion to read it.
-Future Men, by Douglas Wilson

Homeschooling

-Teaching the Trivium, by Harvey and Laurie Bluedorn
-Unit Studies Made Easy, by Valerie Bendt
Note: for actual curriculum, see the Curriculum portion of the site.

Health (General Natural Health/Nutrition)

-What the Bible Says About Healthy Living, by Rex Russell, M.D.
-Let's Have Healthy Children, by Adelle Davis
-The Parents' Guide to Better Nutrition for Tots to Teens (and Others!), by Emory Thurston
Unfortunately, this book has an evolutionary bias, as do most science/nutrition texts. I still found the information valuable.
-How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor, by Robert Mendelsohn, M.D.

Health (Specific Areas)

-The Cholesterol Myths, by Uffe Ravnskov, M.D., Ph.D.
-The Milk Book, by William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.
Please note that the author of this book has a sarcastic type of wit, and there is some "mild" vulgar language throughout the book.
-What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Premenopause, by John Lee, M.D., Jesse Hanley, M.D., and Virginia Hopkins
I haven't actually read this one and the next one yet, but several family members have, and they are highly recommended.
-What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause, by John Lee, M.D., and Virginia Hopkins
-Coming to Term, by Jon Cohen
This one is from a decidedly unbiblical worldview, but contains some amazing information about the very early development of unborn babies and the scientific research available as relates to miscarriage.

Miscellaneous

-Celebrations of Faith, by Randy & Lisa Wilson
-Revolution, by George Barna
-Square Foot Gardening, by Mel Bartholomew
